And then, of course, there are at all times flowers whose colors complement or blend with your linen and china. You need only make sure there is some relationship among the various colors on your table.
ready to start
Whether or not you do the serving, it is proper and attractive to have the fruit course for your breakfast party on the table when the guests come in. If this is grapefruit, the outside spoon to the right of the knife will be a fruit spoon. If it's applesauce or a compote of fruit, that spoon will be a dessert spoon, properly, but there is no dictum against using teaspoons instead.
a drink before breakfast
With the table set, the food ready, and the guests on hand, do you give them a drink before this late breakfast party? It is not at all necessary, and to some people thoroughly objectionable. To others, it wouldn't be a week-end party without something to drink first. Whiskey Sours are one of the few good cocktails to start the day; a milk punch is another. A really nice, mild and more breakfast-like drink (if any can
be!) is a good, dry white wine, well iced. And champagne is completely proper if you like and can afford it. Never serve it, however, unless you can chill it properly (see The Party Drink Book).

Make the kidney stew the day before the party. It's even better warmed over than it is when originally made. Be sure, always, for a breakfast party to make large quantities of coffee. |

the luncheon table
The linen, glass and china you use at a luncheon for women friends can be the same or a little more elegant than what you use for a breakfast party. The table, as always, should be immaculate, neat and set perfectly. The centerpiece will probably, but not necessarily, be more formally arranged than for the breakfast party.
The exact pieces of flat silver you use at a luncheon party are determined by the menu, and again, the pieces to be used first are on the outside, with the rest in the order of use.
